The Tamron 200-400mm f5.6 is an ultra-telephoto, autofocus lens that offers excellent reach at very affordable prices. This is a great lens for sports and wildlife photography where being in the midst of the action without getting eaten by a lion is important while not breaking the bank to get there. This lens has a decent reputation as being a solid performer, especially at the 200mm end of its zoom range. While more chromatic aberration is seen at 400mm, as well as greater edge softening at 400mm when shot wide open, this lens still offers excellent value for the price.
This lens is designed to work on older Nikon AF camera systems. It has compatibility with later Nikon AF film and digital SLR cameras but may not be compatible with all metering modes.
